Allen, Texas was founded in 1872 by the Houston and Central Texas railroad and is named after state politician Ebenezer Allen. Just six years later Allen was the home to a wild chapter in Texas history as the Sam Bass Gang committed the first train robbery in the state. Allen is one of the primary northern suburbs of Dallas and has more than double in population since the year 2000. Allen traces much of its history with its rail and highway connections to nearby Dallas.

The Allen Heritage Village is based in one of the city’s oldest residential areas and also celebrates the famous Sam Bass train robbery with its Sam Bass Railroad History Day in February. After hitting a population low of just 400 residents in the 1950s, Allen has exploded as a thriving suburb of more than 99,000 residents.
